Manage workspace holidays
Add, remove, and tag paid holidays that show up on every employee's calendar.
Holidays on this calendar count as paid time off — they're excluded from leave-day math and appear with a coloured indicator on every employee's attendance calendar. Reach the management page from HRMS in the sidebar → "Workspace setup" → Holidays card, or visit /settings/hr/holidays directly. Owner-only.
The page layout
- Stat tiles — Total holidays, Paid, Optional religious. The Optional count tells you how many are self-pick-able by employees via the RH leave type.
- Year selector — arrow controls navigate between years. Future and past years are both editable.
- Import template + Add holiday buttons in the top right.
- Holiday list grouped by month, each row showing day-of-month, name, type badge (National / Optional), and country badge (IN / UK / US / etc.).
Importing a holiday template
Templates ship with each regional pack — Indian holidays for 2026, UK bank holidays for 2026, US federal holidays for 2026, etc. To pick one:
- Click Import template.
- Pick the template that matches your region and year. The modal previews exactly which holidays will be added.
- Click Import. New holidays are inserted; any holidays you've already added with the same date are preserved (no duplicates, no overrides).
Adding a holiday manually
When a national template doesn't cover a holiday — say a company-specific founders' day, or a regional festival not in the standard pack — click + Add holiday:
- Date. The full date in the workspace timezone.
- Name. Short label shown on every calendar (e.g. "Diwali", "Founders' Day").
- Type. National (everyone gets the day), or Optional (employees can pick this via RH leave). Mostly religious / regional festivals use Optional so people not celebrating can still work.
- Country. Two-letter code (IN, UK, US, EU) for filtering. Mostly informational; doesn't change behaviour.
- Note (optional). Used for movable holidays — e.g. Janmashtami's "Date varies by panchang; HR to confirm".
Editing or deleting
Hover over any holiday row to see the pencil (edit) and trash (delete) icons. Edit lets you update name, type, country, or note. Delete removes the holiday for everyone — confirm carefully; the system warns you if approved leave requests spanned that date so you can decide whether to restore deductions.
How holidays interact with leave
When an employee applies for leave spanning a holiday, the validator automatically subtracts the holiday from the day count — so a Mon–Fri leave that includes Wednesday's Independence Day shows as 4 days, not 5. This is why holiday accuracy matters: stale holidays inflate leave-day counts and short employees on their quotas.
If a holiday falls on a non-working day in someone's shift (e.g. a Sunday), no double-credit happens — the day was already off.
