Set up HRMS for your workspace

The one-time HR setup wizard — starter packs, fiscal year, timezone, and re-import.

HRMS & AttendanceUpdated Try it now

A workspace owner runs the HR setup wizard once. It seeds everything — fiscal year, timezone, leave types, shifts, holidays, and approval workflow — from a starter pack tuned to your country and org type. From there, every other HR surface starts working immediately. You can rerun the wizard later to add types or holidays from a different pack (additive, never destructive).

Where to find the wizard

Two routes:

  • Click HRMS in the sidebar → on the hub, the "Workspace setup" section (owner-only) shows an HR setup wizard card → click it.
  • Or go to /settings/hr/setup directly.

The page is owner-only — non-owners get a 404.

The six starter packs

  1. Indian Agency (Blogrator-style) Recommended. Mon–Sat office, 12:00–19:00 IST, FY Apr–Mar, eight leave types including the student-friendly CEL / CTL / RH. 2-stage Manager → HR approval. Designed for Indian agencies hiring full-timers + interns + students.
  2. Indian SME (Factories Act) — same Mon–Sat 12:00–19:00 IST, but aligned with the Factories Act for small manufacturing / non-tech businesses. Higher EL quota, no student-specific types.
  3. Custom (configure manually) — imports nothing. You'll build every leave type, shift, holiday, and workflow from scratch from /settings/hr. Pick this only if no other pack is even close.
  4. Remote-First Global — fully flexible hours, generous PTO, unlimited sick days, single-stage HR approval, no geo capture. Best for distributed senior teams.
  5. UK Standard — Mon–Fri 9–5:30, fiscal year aligned with UK tax year (Apr–Mar), UK bank holidays pre-loaded. Manager → HR approval.
  6. US Startup — Mon–Fri 9–5, calendar-year fiscal, PTO pool model (no SL/CL split), HR-only approval (founder-led teams under 50 people).

Running the wizard the first time

  1. Open the page. Six pack cards render in a 2-column grid. Each card shows the pack name, a short description, and a country/region badge.
  2. Click the card that matches your org. A confirmation preview lists exactly what will be imported — number of leave types, shifts, holidays, and the workflow stages.
  3. Click Import this pack. The system seeds everything in one transaction; you're redirected back to the setup page with a green "HR setup is complete" status banner at the top.
  4. The banner now reads your current policy version, FY start date, timezone, and the templates that were applied (you can mix templates — see below).

Re-importing or mixing packs

Pack imports are idempotent and additive — existing rows are preserved; only new rows are inserted. This means you can:

  • Re-import the same pack later to pick up new starter rows we've added (e.g. a 2027 holiday template).
  • Mix packs — import Indian Agency first, then run the Remote-First Global pack to add a few unlimited leave types on top.
  • Import a holiday-only template — for example, after running Indian Agency, you can additively import a Christian or Muslim holiday template to surface those optional-religious dates without changing anything else.

To remove rows you imported and don't want, archive them individually from the relevant settings page — there's no "uninstall pack" button by design (avoids accidental nukes of data your team is already using).

After setup — what to do next

  1. Visit /settings/hr/holidays and check the holiday list. The pack imports based on the current calendar year — confirm next year is loaded too or import the next year's template.
  2. Visit /settings/hr/shifts and check the workspace default shift. If you have employees on different hours, add per-user overrides now.
  3. Visit /settings/departments and flag your HR department(s) with the "HR" pill so members of those depts can see /hr/* pages. See the next article.
